How to add your menu to a Google Business Profile, step by step

August 25, 2026
A restaurant Google Business Profile with a menu link

The "Menu" field in a Google Business Profile is one of the most skipped settings in hospitality — and one of the most profitable. A guest who sees the menu directly in the results decides there and then. One who cannot see it clicks the next venue.

Below: three ways to add a menu, and the steps for each.

Three methods and which to choose

Method What the guest sees Updating Verdict
Menu link a "Menu" button leading to your site automatic, if the page is current ✅ best
Google menu editor items and prices directly in the profile manual, at every change ✅ good as an addition
Photo or PDF of the menu an image to zoom into manual, needs a new file uploaded ⚠️ last resort

The optimal setup is link + menu editor. The link gives a complete menu that is always current. The editor shows 15–25 of the most popular items immediately in the panel, with no clicking. A photo of the menu belongs in the gallery at most, never as the only source.

Method 1: the menu link (start here)

  1. Search Google while logged into the account with access to the profile and type your venue's name — the management panel opens directly in the results.
  2. Open Edit profile → Business information.
  3. Find the links section. Food venues get three fields there: Menu link, Online ordering, Reservations.
  4. Into Menu link, paste the address of your menu page.
  5. Save. The change is sometimes moderated and usually appears within a few hours to two days.

Which address to paste

This decides how effective the whole setting is:

  • a dedicated menu page, e.g. your-restaurant.com/menu — the best option,
  • the address of your digital menu, the same one the QR code on the table points at,
  • ⚠️ the home page, if the menu is visible on it without scrolling — works, but worse,
  • a link to a PDF file — the guest gets a download instead of a page,
  • ❌ a link to your menu on a delivery platform — you hand over the traffic and pay commission on a guest Google brought you.

The last point deserves emphasis: many owners paste a link to their delivery-platform profile here. That means a guest found through Google lands on the platform and every order carries a commission of 10–35%.

Method 2: the Google menu editor

The editor lets you enter items directly into the profile — the guest sees them without leaving the search results.

  1. In the profile panel choose Edit profile → Menu (the option appears when the primary category is a food venue).
  2. Add sections matching your menu categories: Starters, Soups, Mains, Desserts, Drinks.
  3. In each section add items: name, price, description.
  4. Save.

What to keep in mind

  • Do not retype the whole menu. Enter the 15–25 most ordered items. The full menu sits behind the link.
  • Descriptions matter. This is text Google reads — dish names and ingredients help you match searches like "ramen near me".
  • Prices have to match the ones in the venue. A discrepancy in the profile ends in a negative review.
  • It is manual work at every change. Treat the editor as a shop window for your most popular items, not as the source of truth.

Method 3: a photo of the menu (as a supplement only)

Google lets you upload a photo of the menu or a PDF in the photos section. It is a last resort, and it is worth knowing why:

  • the guest has to zoom the image on a phone,
  • the menu content is not read as text, so it does no work for visibility,
  • every price change needs a new photo uploaded, and the old ones stay in the gallery and confuse guests.

Delete old versions when adding new ones. A photo of a menu with prices from 2 years ago is worse than no photo — a guest will see it and arrive with expectations from before two increases.

Popular dishes — a separate, often skipped field

Beyond the menu, Google has a popular dishes section that appears as tiles with photos. It is worth filling in: it is the most visible part of the menu in the profile, and it needs only a photo and a name.

Dishes with a good photo get a disproportionate share of clicks — this is the place for the 3–5 items you are best known for.

Common problems

There is no "Menu" field in my profile. Usually because the primary category is not a food one. Change it to "Restaurant", "Pizzeria", "Cafe" or whatever fits — the field appears after saving.

The change was not approved. Google moderates edits. If the link was rejected, check that it leads to a page you own and that it is not a delivery-platform link, which Google may treat as inconsistent with the field.

The menu shown is out of date. With the editor you have to update manually. With the link, check that the menu on the page is actually current — Google shows what it finds and usually refreshes within 1–3 days.

Somebody else manages the profile. This happens after working with an agency. The panel has an ownership transfer option — the process takes a few days.

How to set it once and not come back

The target state: one menu address that is the source of truth — the same one behind the QR code on the table, in the Google profile, on the website and in social media. A price change in one place is visible everywhere.

In WMenu the menu has a fixed address, so you set the profile link once — and that is the only 2 minutes this topic asks of you. Updating the menu needs no action on Google's side. See online menu or real venue menus.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a menu to Google Business Profile?

In the profile panel: Edit profile → Business information → the "Menu link" field, then Edit profile → Menu to enter items directly. Best to use both at once.

Can I upload the menu as a PDF to the profile?

Technically yes, but it is the worst available option: the guest has to zoom in, and the menu content does no work for search visibility. Better to paste a link to the menu page.

Why can I not see the "Menu" option in my profile?

The field only appears for food categories. Check the profile's primary category and change it to the right one.

How long does approval take?

Usually a few hours to two days. Link and price changes tend to be moderated longer than opening hours.

Can I point the menu field at a delivery platform?

Technically you can, but it is an expensive decision: a guest brought by Google lands on the platform, and you pay commission on an order that could have been direct.
